OK, if you have been lurking and only posting or dropping in once in a while...here is your chance to get in on a hot topic/thread.

I would like to introduce for discussion the topic of abortion from a wiccan viewpoint. As we approach the presidential election this is on a lot of people's minds in terms of the pro-choice/pro-life debate. I have two diametrically opposed beliefs that I will throw out to start things off.

First, one of the main reasons i chose wicca as my religion is because I do not believe anyone has a right to tell anyone else how to live/believe and i embrace the aspect of our religion that does not seek to persuade others to believe as we do but respects others' beliefs.

Secondly, I embrace our core belief and directive "to harm none."

Living amoung others who have many varied beliefs on this planet, I believe strongly that tollerance of others' beliefs is a critical need in our society. However obviously any one's rights must by necessity end at the place where they tread on another's rights. This leads us back to the easy to determine conclusion that no one has the right to end another's life. But I do find that i am loathe to wish to see govenment dictating a woman's right to end a pregancy making it once again illegal and opening the doors to back-room illegal abortinos which lead to to much tragedy for so many prior to legalized abortions.

What I am opening up for discussion is not necessarrily our own views but how do we answer for ourselves or others the question in regards to wicca as a religion. I admit to being conflicted on this issue, on the one hand supporting a woman's right to choose, and on the other not wanting to see the innocent unborn come to harm. let me reiterate that this is not a discussion about what we each personally would choose if faced with the choice in our own lives, but a discussion of how the topic applies to our wiccan religion.

Right now we are faced with a huge decision in regards to the choice of our next president, here in the US. One candidate is pro-life and the other is pro-choice. While there are many other issues we are considering in which candidate to vote for, this issue remains one of the top in many voters minds. (not that it is a given that either candidate can necessarrily follow through on their plans if elected)

OK...so tell us what you think and try to back up your position with logic and not just emotion.

Have fun!
Dreemy
