Subject: Congrats on starting Irish dance! Answers inside . . .

1) what's the best type of softshoe? My teacher says
pachelli or rutherford.
Michelle says: I personally use the Pacelli's, though they do tend to stretch a bit :) I wear about a 6 in American sizes, and a 2 or 3 in ghillies! The leather becomes stretched out after about 6 months, but they do look nice and neat. Also, the side loops keep the ghilies from bagging.

2) what time do most dancer start harshoe?
Michelle says: It depends on the teacher and dancer. If you master softshoe quicker, you'll get the chance to start hardshoe sooner. I would say the average is about 7-8 months.

3) how much do dresses cost?
Michelle says: Well, this will definitely vary! School dresses, which will be the first one you get, with normally cost around $100-$500. Solo dresses, usually worn by Novice+, cost around $750-$1000.

Good luck with your dancing, Melanie!
