It's astounding -- I can't remember much of anything from that long ago. Course having a bowling ball fall off a shelf onto my head when I was about nine might have had something to do with it. Actually, that probably explains a lot...

Johnny Bench! He was my hero when I was younger, too. Where did you grow up, Mark? I remember going down to Riverfront to see the Reds play once, all excited about seeing JB, only to find out that he wasn't playing that day and that our seats were directly over the dugout so I couldn't even see him! The ironic thing is, everyone in my family here are Indians fans now! Ah, well.

I grew up in Cincinnati in a suburb on the north called Wyoming. I remember going to a game at Crosley field which they tore up when they built the sterile Rivefront stadium. Riverfront was much harder to get close to the players, but I managed to and got JB's autograph. Except for John Glenn, he is the only person I have seeked an autograph from.

I was at the game when they did This Is Your Life show for Johnny Bench (remember the show?). They did it right after the game and I almost missed it. I also got to see Tom Seaver's first (Only?) no-hitter when he played for the Reds. I also remember when George Foster (hit 52 dingers that year) hit a screecher that went into the upper deck and still seemed to be climbing. Man he had some power!

Shasta, where did you grow up? I'm guessing around Columbus with the split allegience.
