Subject: 93 Diamante Valves & Head Gasket

My 93 Diamante is using up a little oil..1/2 quart in 600 miles.

1. I took it to the dealer and they could not find any leaks. So, they advised me to change the stem seals and the valve guides and quoted me $1500.
My diamante does not smoke at all.

2. I then took it to Pep boys and they did a oil leak test using a dye. They said that the head gasket was leaking and the valves were okay. They said the repair would be around $1500

My dilemma is that I dont know who to believe, or do I get both of the above done OR do I need to rebuild the engine OR put in a already rebuilt engine OR get rid of the car.
The car is worth about $3500 and has 118000 miles on it.
It does ride as smooth as silk though and gives me good fuel mileage.

Any advice would be gratly appreciated. Thanks a lot in advance.
