The only time I have been playing Silent Hill is late at night, with the lights off, so it adds to the effect of it. Silent Hill manages to create a freaky atmosphere before you even manage to start a new game. What with that "There are violent and disturding images in this game" in the beginning, and then the quote and the spooky music in the trailer.

It's not the monsters that spook me, it's the things that happen for no reason at all. Like the voice crying in the boys washroom (even though there is no one there), or when I walk into a room and there is this banging on the wall from the other side(no one was there), or when I am walking through the locker room and a body falls out from one of the lockers. Stuff like that, which manages to catch you off guard.

In Resident Evil the only think that ever made me jump was where the dog busted through the window, or anytime when the Nemesis decided to pay me a visit *shutters*
