Barret Wallace

Barret Wallace had lived in Corel his entire life. Corel was a small coal-mining town at the feet of the Northern Mountains on the Western Continent. Corel had been founded as a mining town for it's rich caches of coal, and was established as a town when more mines and miners moved in. Though populated by crude wooden hutts more than houses, Corel was a bustling town despite it's size. Barret had worked hard in the mines and various other jobs around Corel for many years, following what his best friend Dyne was doing and making sure they were always in close qaurters, until he and Dyne were offered places on Corel's Town and Business Counsel from the Mayor. Barret, always having a love for business snapped up the opportunity. Dyne also took the job, though his passion for coal mining burned brighter than paperwork, the money in desk-jobs was good. Barret, and Dyne, always bickered and barked at each other about certain topics, Barret always wanting to see Corel flourish and grow, while Dyne just wanted it to keep it's roots and atmosphere. However hard they fought, though, they would never let themselves get as far as losing friendship. By the time barret was middle-aged, he and Dyne had grown to become two of the most popular men in the town, always the reason problems were fixed and strong, handsome men. Dyne met a girl called Eleanor and instantly hit it off, within months they were married and happy, a little baby girl called Marlene coming a year later. Barret couldn't have been happier for him, but longed for companionship himself. A woman named Myrna had always had an eye for him, but he'd always been too busy to get to know her. Maybe he'd give her a try. His instincts proved correct, and he and Myrna got on like a house on fire. Not long after, they were married and Barret settled into a cosy life with her.

Life could not always be perfect, though, and a year after the marriage, Myrna started feeling sick frequently. Barret frantically called for a doctor to do something, and the doctor revealed that the dust and smoke from the coal mines was damaging her sensitive lungs, causing the illnesses. Barret was torn, Myrna could not stay in Corel as it was, not only that, but Corel was suffering financially thanks to the new Mako energy systems being installed in all the other towns by ShinRa. It seemed the only thing to do was to move away from Corel, something Barret hated the thought of. Knowing their time to appear was right, ShinRa sent Scarlett, one of ShinRa's Big-wigs out to Corel to make a sale. Her offer was to build a Mako Reactor in the hills above Corel and hire most of the coal-miners as workers. Barret saw this is a golden opportunity. With the new technology of Mako energy, he and Myrna could stay in and he could keep his job. This was also a great opportunity to show the planet what Corel could be. The other members of the counsel also thought Mako energy would be their saviour, as coal just wasn't needed anymore. Dyne was strongly against mako, however, and although it seemed he was outvoted from the start, he hated the thought of his peaceful little coal town becoming another bleary city like Midgar. Barret was incessant on the reactor being built, it would make Corel a much more livable place. He convinced Dyne to accept the reactor, and it was built. Soon after the reactor was built, life was good. Money was coming in again from town using the reactor's juice, people were feeling healthier and happier, even Dyne.

Then tragedy struck. Something had gone wrong with the Reactor, and ShinRa blamed the messup on a resistance factor in Corel. As Barret and Dyne came back from a days work in the hills, the saw flames and smoke rising from the village. In clear view they saw that the entire town was an inferno. Barret sunk to his knees on the hill-top in disbelief, cursing and punching the ground with an enormous fist. Dyne reassured him everyone was alright and waiting for them, so he told him to hurry down to the town to see them. As they ran along, they were met by the Mayor, running as fast as his old legs could go towards them. He screamed out for help, but was shot down from behind. A troop of ShinRa guards stood there, along with Sacrlet. Barret and Dyne fled under a hail of bullets down a narrow walkway with a deep ravine on one side. Dodging bullets, Dyne slipped off the track, caught narrowly by the hand of Barret. Vulnerable now, they were fired upon by Scarlet, and Barret strained to pull Dyne up. It was too later, though, and several machine gun bullets pelted themselves into the two men's connected hands, making them let go. Dyne flew down into nothingness and Barret managed to escape, his right arm a mess of blood and flesh. In terrible pain, he made it to the village, but it was too late. His wife Myrna, Dyne's wife Eleanor, they had been shot down and burnt. Barret was about to leave when he heard crying. He raced into Dyne's house to find Marlene, Dyne's little girl. Hoisting her up in his good arm, he fled Corel to find a doctor.

With the destruction of Corel and his family, Barret nursed an intense hatred for anyone and anything involved with ShinRa in the slightest, along with a useless prosthetic right arm. When he could, he took Marlene to Midgar on the Eastern continent, with the intent of staying there to raise Marlene as his own, and to settle a few scores with ShinRa. When he arrived, he met up with an underground team of terrorists called AVALANCHE who had derived from Cosmo Canyon. They had a base, a bar called Tifa's Seventh Heaven run by Tifa Lockheart, and manpower, all they needed was direction. Together, they planned attacks on ShinRa's business. Barret ditched his prosthetic arm and had a powerful Gatling Gun grafted surgically in place of it. Now Barret could move into the big time, he had a plan to destroy one of ShinRa's Midgar reactors, but he needed some more muscle than just AVALANCHE could offer, he needed a professional. As luck would have it, Tifa had a visit from a childhood friend, a young man from Soldier, just what was needed.

Not as long as Cloud's Bio I know, but there's less detail in Barret's.
