In reply to: ark 's message, "i don't agree with the delays/pulling of these games" on 21:54:23 09/14/01 Fri

While I don't condone this sort of censorship, I do think that these companies have good intentions. It's hard for me to judge this one. Normally, I would say exactly what Ark is saying (and I certainly have no problem with it), but these are most certainly not normal times. You see, this is no simple matter for the game companies. If I were in their shoes, I would do the same thing. This may sound like an odd statement coming from me, considering my well-known dislike of both censorship and the way the gaming industry has been unjustly attacked. But try to look at this from their perspective.

The video game industry has been under siege for quite some time now by groups of ignorant, narrow-minded people, among them members of the United States government. These people are looking for excuses to go on the offensive, and this sort of thing has the potential to push the situation over the edge, The companies don't want that kind of trouble ..... it's really bad for business. That's the pratical side. Remember, the gaming industry is there to make money, not to make points about issues, be they censorship or otherwise.

Then there is the emotional angle. Emotions are running VERY high in this country right now, as we all know, especially those of us who reside here. There is so much pain and suffering involved. It's in poor taste to be releasing games right now that show parts of NYC getting destroyed, and it would certainly upset people. This is a very. very touchy issue ..... it's different from things that have come up in the past for the industry.

These are extreme circumstances, and I honestly can't argue with the reasoning of those who made these decisions. I must state however, that I am not for the BANNING of any of these games. But to delay or temporarily pull certain games for a reasonable period of time, until things have a chance to calm down a little, seems like a reasonable thing to do.

That's just my opion .... it's not intended to offend anyone , and I most definitely not attacking anyone else's point of view here.

I don't know ..... maybe I'm just really emotional myself right now. This is uncomfortably close to home for me. I know a lot of people here in New York state who lost friends and relatives, or would have if it were not for circumstances that prevented them from being at the WTC that day. Right now I don't think I could watch footage of NYC getting demolished without feeling physically ill.
