Subject: Help! My bunny bit a neighbor--bite infected

I am a fairly new bunny owner, and thought a dwarf bunny would be a gentle pet for my kids. Our 9 month old bunny is active, curious, and pretty tame, though skittish about being picked up. It just bit a neighbor, and the bite got infected, necessitating a doctor visit. Now I'm worried--should I find it a new home? I don't want an unpredictable pet...
Is there a difference in aggression between the sexes, or types of rabbits? Any way to insure you're getting a gentle one?
