Hi,
Rabbits should be fed oaten hay and a good diet including
fresh vegetables (not iceberg lettuce or cabbage though).
This will help prevent bloat and constipation.
Catalax, available from your vet, has been used to
clear constipation in rabbits successfully. Getting the
Catalax into your rabbits mouth can be messy though
and is best administered into the side of the mouth a little at a time. I also found smearing the Catalax on
the rabbits paws encouraged the rabbit to lick off the
catalax. You need to also find a good rabbit vet in your
State to liase with on this issue. Lack of appetite
or constipation could also be due to other factors.
In rabbits, lack of passing faecal matter can lead to
rapid deterioration in health. You need to remedy this
as soon as possible. Try the pineapple juice fed via a syringe carefully into the side of the mouth a little
at a time (dont drown your rabbit by forcing liquid
straight down his/her throat) and wait for your rabbit
to swallow. It is best to use fresh pineapple juice as
the enzymes are still fresh and active.
