I feel for you and your friend. She certainly has had to face a lot lately and then some. Words seem so inadequate at such times I know...

Perhaps she will take the time to put her affairs in order and may be she can realize she can treasure the time she has left to spend it with her sons and perhaps do something she really wants to do (even a small thing). But it sounds like she will need some counseling or assistance in order to do that.

If you feel like she is an immediate danger to herself - you might consider calling: 1) the Hospice organization in your county - they offer many, many services including counseling and this is what they specialize in... and/or 2) call social services and fill them in.

I hope she will give herself a little time to re-group and reconsider and tell her family.

Hang in there, I know it is hard when it is a good friend. I have been through it myself with 2 close friends.
