Nancy, My heart is breaking for you. This has been a tough thirty years. (((hugs)))

I think its great that you're going to read the file. It's your right as a next-of-kin and victim. I think it's awful that it took so long to get permission. Also remember you may not have been given everything. Part of the reason I say that is someone has reviewed that file before you got it so that nothing too embarassing for the police dept gets out.

After you get the information you need. And whether or not you're able to get the case closed, you may want to consider grief counseling. It's been a long time and you lost the most critical person in your life. Because your mom is gone and it was in such an awful way you will still need to go through the grieving. It's been said that grieving is hard work and it is. Oftentimes it's too hard and we don't do it on our own . . . but someone else can help us face the painful memories and say goodbye so that we have some closure.

I hope you find what you're looking for and that your heart can find peace.

(((hugs)))
Alison
