The UDA stands for ulster defence association,who are the largest loyalist paramilitary group in northern ireland.It was fromed in sepetember 1971 from a number of loyalist vigilante groups many which were called "defence associations.The UDA's first leader was called Charels Smith.Members of the UDA have used a cover name since 1973 called ulster freedom fighters (UFF) to claim the responsibility for the killing of Catholics.
