Subject: Custody issues--I can sympathize completely

Wow. I can completely understand. Although I am high-end PTSD and am in therapy, my ex is fighting for custody based on his claim that I live in a "story book". None of the traumas were reported, and it is a mess.

I left my ex because he was abusive, now in Wisconsin he has a chance of gaining full custody-I have never abused nor neglected my daughter, in fact her situation now is much better than it could have ever been. Don't the courts look at attempts of a person to get better? The court system does nothing to support the willingness to leave abusive situations nor does it do anything to assist with persons with mental illness. In order to prove any type of abuse or neglect you have to be extremely beaten up or neglected to almost the point of death. At least admitting that I have a mental illness is better than not admitting you have a problem (ie animal or people abuse) at all.

I used to ask why women with mental illness in abusive relationships do not leave. I have the answer. Because once we are fed to the court system there is no mercy.
