Subject: The young man enters the Sands.

Like most Candidates, Mitaen is nervous, and the sight of so few eggs left simply terrifies him. Rubbing a dully silver ring with his thumb, the slender boy of 16 Turns approaches the remaining mottled spheres, pale eyes wide with awe and respect. Remembering his manners in the nick of time, Mitaen bows deeply to the Weyrwoman and Weyrleader, as well as Amenth, the beautiful queen of Eastern. Remembering his parents' send-off, the Candidate suddenly smiles brightly and relaxes, assuming a completely different stance -- one of confidence and ease. After all, he thinks to himself cheerfully, my cousins Impressed a bronze, gold, and two blues! There's no reason I won't Impress. Thinking of his family always seems to comfort Mitaen, for he loves them dearly. His oldest cousin, S'kon, had the bronze. Then S'sha with her queen, Channa and Samma with their blues. And even if I don't Impress, I can go to HerderHall! Jent said I was welcome. Thoughts of his older brother also cheer him up, and by now he's feeling rather confident about his chances of Impressing. Blue-black hair brushing his shoulders, Mitaen strides jauntily forward towards one particular egg, touching the warm shell lightly. "Are you for me?" he whispers outloud, grey-blue eyes staring intently at the mottled surface.
