Then with a thought of revenge she realized that she didn't have anything to carry the sand with and the way that they were running she would probably lose it all through her fingers. He would stop to scoop up some more sand, but running through sand is tiring and he didn't want her to get too far ahead for him to catch up on wearied legs, but he's certainly not going to merely drop the bowl for her to possibly turn and go after it, so he just keeps running.
