Author: Ynome
Subject: +pokes her head out of a box+

Character Description
Name: Ynome
Gender: Male-and-female (hermaphrodite)
Age: Approx. 23
Description: Refer to the species description for the majority of it; Ynome specifically is rather small, lithe, and delicately-featured, with dark grey claws in water-form.
Personality: Ebullient. Full of a desire to learn and to get things recorded, and to see new places. Surprisingly bad at reading a situation and discerning the danger of it; when something threatens Ynome, the first reaction is to blend back into the scenery and try not to be noticed.
History: Ynome grew up on one of his/her world's port islands, which are the only really civilized parts of his/her planet. In their neck of the universe, salt is one of the most efficient fuel sources, and offworlders often refuel their ships in the high-saline waters--bringing their technology to a mostly uncivilized planet. Ynome, one of those sheltered intellectuals that occasionally develops in a family with plenty of children to tend the seaweed and fish corrals, has developed quite a desire to go offworld and make educational holovids, and he/she buys passage on a grain ship to Etreus.
Species: Dinghumma

Species Description
Height at Shoulder: Male land form, bipedal--3.5'-4.5'; male land form, quadrupedal--8"-1'; female land form, bipedal--4'-5'; female land form, quadrupedal--9"-1'; male water form--length approx. 6'-7.5'; female water form--length approx. 7'-8'
Coloration: Chameleon-like, dinghumma can shift to match their surroundings.
Species Description: Dinghumma are hermaphrodites as well as land-to-water shifters, and so they all technically have four forms which differ in size, shape, and attributes. They can shift from water to land forms and back in a trice, but male-to-female and vice versa takes at least a week to properly occur.
The land form is a rather typically amphibian/reptilian form, long and lean with short, splayed legs and a long, tapering tail; this tail aids in balance when a dinghum walks upright. The color-changing skin is pebbled but not scaled, and close to the body except at the joints. The head, rather surprisingly, is not reptilian but almost like a fox's in shape (but with internal ears and reptilian nostrils). Dinghumma land fore-and-aft feet are both like hands, with short, stubby claws and opposable thumbs, and very long fingers which can grip almost any surface tenaciously.
In water form, dinghumma retain mostly the same shape, but their hands become webbed and their claws become less stubby, and their legs hinge differently so as to swim most effectively. Often, the tail will reshape to a kind of long, flat propulsion device not unlike a salamander's tail.
As with many reptiles, amphibians, and fish, males are smaller than females; when a dinghum switches between one form and the other, the size will change in proportion to the gender.
Species Temperment: Very curious, very hardworking and dedicated to reaching their goals, full of awe at new things and impatience with things they know. Dinghumma like to push the limits as far as they can without actually entering conflicts; their immediate reaction to conflicts is to turn away and try to blend into the scenery.
