While you're considering renaming provinces, what about Alberta (named for Queen Victoria's daughter), Nova Scotia (New Scotland) and New Brunswick (chosen in honour of King George III, a descendant of the Brunswick House)?

Seriously though, why rename them? The Americans didn't feel the need to rename New York, New England, Georgia, Virginia or countless other places when they won their independence.

I'm all for a true Canadian head of state (although I prefer that person to be democratically elected) but renaming place names is a bit too revisionist for my tastes. Even more distasteful than Quebec's renaming of english place names.
