The 3chip certainly can replace the invisible lines where macrovision pulses live but it would need quite different software to deal with the output from a VCR/DVD - maybe someone can outline the differences.
I've had great success with macrovision removal using a common design based on a LM1881 sync detector chip (no PIC) which is available in kit form from many sources (fairly cheap).
