Subject: Selecting a VCR

Hello all,
I am having trouble selecting a VCR which is able to tune to all cable TV stations.
At the moment, I have a TV, tuned to all stations, via my 3 chip to another TV to view the broadcast. This setup works well, but, 2 TVs is over the top.
I have tried several VCR's and returned them to where I purchased them.
Some VCR's do not tune to all stations, as the VCR should be "cableTV ready" or "Hypertuner".
Some VCR's automatic tuning skip all or some scrambled stations.
Some VCR's tune to all split sync OK, but not raised sync and colour burst.
Some VCR's tune OK, but the scrambled video signal is so distorted, that it does not look like a video signal on a CRO.
Some have combinations of problems.
What should I look for when purchasing a VCR?
Any suggestions are welcome.
