The board schematic calls for a SX-18 or a PIC16C54. The GILN18 code that is tested and known to work will not work with a PIC16F84. The GILN18a code was an attempt by Dan to use the PIC16F84. Nobody has specifically told me whether the code works or not, therefore I have not updated the Info Page. If you can, try a PIC16C54JW or SX-18 chip to see if you have a hardware problem or not. I believe Phil's code for Canton 4.2 with the 16F84 is known to work but I believe that Canton used different ports so that it will not work on a PIU board. It should be possible to modify that code to use the proper ports in the Piu board.

The Piu board that I built had what I believe were design problems in the edge detectors and video buffer stages. I needed to make extensive changes to get it to lock and was never completely satisfied with the picture. My best board has been Canton's adjustable everything board but I have not built his newer boards yet.

Troubleshooting these boards is pretty simple if you follow a logical plan. Let me know if you want any help. If you have a meter and a scope, it shouldn't be a problem. Troubleshooting code design problems is much more difficult and is easier with an analog dual trace delayed triggered scope and another 3chip that actually works and has test pulses to trigger the scope.

Maybe someone else knows if Dan's port of Dave2's GILN18 code ever worked for the 18F84.
