Subject: AGC Hack Question to Potter or those who knows

I would like to know by using the AGC Sample & Hold circuit and modification of the source code, can the quality of the picture be the same as original decoder? I hacked the AGC by using the 5K trimmer to 5V, Ground and IF AGC Pin but I noted that I get like shadow of lines on certain bring object. I wonder with software control will be better?
