Hi Bill,

I detected that old house that we spoke about this morning, found quite a few newer coins, and one LARGE copper coin. I found the copper near the front of the house, which I believe to date back to the late 1600 or early 1700's. The coin measures approx. 1- 1/4 inches in diameter, is definately copper (I scratched it on the way up..oops)and is badly corroded. It looks like its been in the ground a long time. I found it near the front entrance to the home..only about 2" deep in the remains of a pebble walkway. On the obverse there is definately the bust of a male figure facing left, but I cannot read a date or any of the writing on the periphery, the reverse is encrusted heavily and I cannot see any details there at all. Any ideas what this might be? Also, is there any way to remove the encrustation (a dark green and white coating) without damaging the coin further? Thanks for your help.
Steve
