Yanno, a couple years ago, we had a deal where guards created an "incognito" account with PoL as the tag on it, created an "incognito" character, worked that character up a little in levels AWAY from PoL so it didn't seem brandy new, then went into the channel and tried to get some of the members to give out the passwords.. "Hi, Gabe! Hey, I forgot the passwords and my mom deleted my bookmarks to the page. I'll get 'em back later and remake the bookmarks, but for now, can I get the password so I can play for a while?" Actually caught a couple of people givin' out the passwords that way... as it was "entrapment", so to speak, the only disciplinary action we took on the members was an Email reprimand after the operation was over.... but it worked really well. After a couple of weeks of this (there were 3 or 4 of us doing it), we posted in the Inn that we had mounted a covert campaign to see if people were giving out the passwords and that for the most part they weren't, but we DID find a few members that did (no names). We also stated that those members had been shown the "error of their ways" and that all actions that WERE going to take place as a result of the indiscretion had ALREADY taken place and there were going to be no more repercussions because of it, THIS TIME. Gee, for a LONG time after that, we had NO password leaks.

It worked out really well! And I had a great time playin' when no one knew who I was.. it ws interesting to notice how some members (a few, not a lot of 'em) played somewhat differently when they didn't know that a guard was in the game with 'em................. however, most of those that were "different" were no surprise to us.. we'd already discussed reports about their behavior and actions in the Guard forums in the past.

Anyways, just a thought. Any opinions about mounting just such an operation again?
