Schism was staring ahead blankly, twirling a fishing lure in his hands. He hadn't seen Maritime step outside the chamber, nor noticed his assistant's return.

"Sir...didn't you hear me? Please don't make me raise my voice...I checked outside, away from the room's shielding...I even stood near a window...believe me anyone around me had enough to distract them...somewhat surprised I could concentrate...anyway I tried to raise a signal and....nothing."

Maritime's optics roamed the room now, the reality sinking in. His Senator didn't even come back with a trademark fishing-related non sequiter.

"This is bad, isn't it? And I guess right about now, that other stuff...

It doesn't really matter?"

Schism's silence was answer enough for Maritime. Though his assignment had always been trying, he would stand by his Senator's side now, until the end if need be....
