Subject: 254th A.G.F. Band

I have a photo of a military band performing. On the back of the photo it says that it is the 254th A.G.F. band in Mineral Wells TX. Date unknown, but I'm assuming it is is the 1940s. Can anyone tell me if the A.G.F. bands actually performed in that area in the 1940's? If so, I would be more than willing to share the photo!

The patch that the band is wearing is the Army Ground Forces patch. I think it was the fore runner to CONARC (Continental Army Command) patch, not 100% sure.Patch was red, white, and blue. I don't recognize anyone in the picture. French horn player looks like MAYBE Lyle D. Cater...... was 1SGT in 1st Cav in Korea in 1959, he had about 30 years in then, was retiring when going back to states. But not sure. Mineral Springs, home of Fort Wolters, housed about 25,000 troops. Infantry Replacement Training Center and also a German POW camp during WWII Don't know how many German troops were there but there were some. Having read a long time ago about the German POW camps in the US, they really treated the POWs quite well, fed them anything they wanted, better than the folks in the US were eating. Wasted a lot of food, etc.. Was interesting reading. Some of the POWs worked on local farms...

Hope this will add to your research.
