Subject: New VP of the American Bandmasters Association

From Colonel (Retired) Hal J. Gibson, commander of the Field Band from 1969 - 1974.

--------------------
Special note for the Field Band Retiree and Alumni Association.

At the concluding meeting of the American Bandmasters' Convention on Saturday March 4th, the all important nomination and vote for the new vice president was made. This is important because in two years this person will automatically become president of the ABA, the most prestigious organization of bandleaders in the world. The person selected for this position was Robert Jorgensen, currently the Director of Bands at the University of Akron. In the late 60's and early 70's he was a euphonium soloist with the band. Being elected president of the ABA is one of the highest honors an American band conductor can receive. All of us can share with Bob the pride of this distinctive recognition. Also elected as a member of the Board of Directors of the ABA was COL Finley Hamilton, the current commander. As a part of Bob Jorgensen's introduction it was pointed out that a vital part of his career was his experience as a member of the Army Field Band and his presenter then went on to explain that every conductor of the Field Band from Chet Whiting to today had been a member of the ABA. We are proudly represented in this most highly regarded band organization.
