| Scrambling painfully to injured legs, shrill scream of rage fluted from flared nares. Razor flints ripped mercilessly at the heavy black hide, one especially torn hind-leg ignored. The sight of his blood-soaked son passed a haze of red before his vision as any pain was driven from his mind. Ivories viciously slashed at the opponent, only stopping once he felt the life seeping slowly out of the ugly brute’s carcass. Holding his near hind off the crimson-washed terra, ripped muzzle tentatively grazed bold offspring, leaving a bright smear on the copper coat. Throaty whicker pulsed from chest. Rasping voice slipped through his heavy breathing, giving a whispered thanks for their diversion. He had understood his son’s need for the sheer numbers to stop, but had ignored it once the warriors had backed away. Had not the brute crashed in with all of the intent of slaying the helpless in a cold blooded massacre? Vision flickered as hazy orbs darted wearily from being to being, reassuring his tormented mind that all he held dear were now under no threat from any. Trembling legs folded awkwardly as bay crashed mutely to the sodden dirt. Blood created a swift puddle about his prone figure as unconsciousness crashed over him like the tumultuous tide…|
