The Last Unicorn
Alone in the meadow over there,
Sits a young maiden putting flowers in her hair,
Wishing that she could leave before it’s too late,
But all she can do is sit there and wait.
He approaches out from under the trees,
Very slowly and cautiously,
She knows as she watches, what will be his fate,
What a terrible feeling, to be used as a bait.
As he gently rests his head upon her lap,
A tear rolls down her cheek, she knows it’s a trap,
He is the last, the last one of his breed,
The rest all gone, because of mans greed.
Now come the hunters, that gruesome pair,
He is the last one, and they do not care.
For the magical powers of his horn they seek,
If he could have only known his future was so bleak.
To wipe out his life with such a cruel blow,
The men are not stupid, they had to know.
What a costly price it was to pay,
To take such a magnificent creature away.
Now it is over and they are all gone,
My precious unicorn the very last one.
Never again upon his beauty may I look,
He now only exists in a fantasy book.
How sad that our children will never get the chance to be,
Amazed by their grace and radiant beauty.
For never another will be born,
To take the place of the last unicorn.
