ABBA Minutes, May 12, 2002

The May 12, 2002 ABBA meeting was called to order at 9:00 PM EDT.

Old Business:

Miami/Dade Petition - 3500 signatures so far.
Billboard - Denise contacted a billboard company for information. She emailed and called, but they said they
would have a rep call for Dade County..Nothing.

- BSL Updates and State Reports -

Ohio - Pepper has been trying to contact Melanie Tierney in regard to what is happening in OH. ABBA has offered to help. We asked Melanie to come to a meeting and she did not. So we wait.

Warren, OH - There will be a city council meeting to discuss BSL in Warren.

Miami/Dade, FL - A march in Miami is being planned to present the petition to the mayor with media attention.
No dogs will be involved in the march. It is will be a huge job to get the permits and people together. It will be a gathering at city hall. It will have to be done by Miami/Dade/ FL residents. A petition with 5-7000 signatures will be presented. It is time to show
disapproval of how they are killing dogs. Protesters should wear ANTI BSL t-shirts and carry picket signs. Everyone at the protest should be very well dressed. Committees need
to be formed....Signs, flyers, advertising, logistics

- There are people that have offered to house the dogs temporarily for them on the Black Pearl Board and on the BSL boards.

Virginia - The rescue bill is not what we all thought it was.


New Business:

It was suggested that we need to petition AKC and UKC to stop having dog shows where there is BSL and really get firm about it.

Brags and Announcements:

Sandy - My Blazer got his UAGI title with 3 perfect 200 scores.

Ruth - Storytime Goes Undercover, OFA, ie. Squeak got a Best Male and a class win at the show last weekend and Cinder got a class win. That means he only needs one point AKC and a major UKC to finish both for his championships.

Kerrie - A female I bred is in the top 10 now and today she took another BIMB show (best in multibreed show) - 2nd time in a few weeks.

Pepper - Today Kuno DIDNT chew up any more couch cushions!

Maureen - I start teaching a beginner conformation class on Wednesday.

Denise - I got to see Leigh, after a year, at a show. I have a new Ch. in the house. Does anyone have a Hobby Permit they are using in their town? I need to make one up. Create my own law in this town.

Peggy - Aurora's preliminary OFA looks excellent and the xray of her knee shows no broken bones from her accident.

Jim - Well Shadow, Zues and Mini Jane didn't place at all this weekend, BUT, I got 3 A's and 1 C on my midterms so far. Haven't got the big mid term back yet, but I think I did OK on it. Also, I caught Mini Jane chewing on a dead rabbit.

Kris - As of last Friday, My dog, Dakota, and I are now official members of the elite international Search and
Rescue squad. The 1st Special Response Group
Two weeks ago, Dakota and I became official members of the K9 Forensic team called the Canine Specialized Support Team.

The meeting was adjourned at 10:13 PM EDT.
