Subject: Chapter 1716 of Ohio Revised Code, Ohio Charitable Solicitation Act

Maureen- thanks for your kind mention of my group. However, I am not a 501(c)3, nor am I registered in Ohio as such, therefore I cannot accept or solicit donations.

Chapter 1716 of Ohio Revised Code, Ohio Charitable Solicitation Act makes it pretty clear.

Any charitable organization that intends to solicit contributions in Ohio by any means, or have contributions in the state solicited on its behalf by anyone else must file a registration with the Ohio Attorney General.

The text goes on to note that you can't solicit donations until you are registered (which means filing, a fee, copy of annual financial report, etc).

If you do solicit before introducing yourself to the state, you are in violation of the law, and Ohio can fine you up to $10,000 for each violation, as well as stop you from future solicitation activities.

Subject: [dogwatchleg] Donations

Since there has been discussion about donations to various groups, I would like to take this opportunity to tell you about 2 organizations and 1 person that can use our help financially.

The American Dog Owners Association, ADOA,
This group has been around since the 70s, fighting BSL at many different levels, promoting responsible ownership, education and public outreach. They have been there when we as dog owners have needed them, whether for information, strategy suggestions and advice. They have sent their directors, etc. to different areas to help us to prevent BSL....They presently have several law suits going in different areas, this takes lots of money....Would you think about sending them a contribution.....

Canine Friends of Cleveland,

Melanie Tierney's tireless fight against breed specific legislation from the very beginning..... she has never given up...she does not ask for anything but I am sure they can use donations for their cause to make it safe for the bully breeds to attend shows, activities, etc in Ohio.

Last but not least...Kris and her SAR Dogs....Kris has run out of money to continue to do SAR, she does not have a sponsor to purchase the equipment, etc for her APBT SAR dogs. Kris' one dog was poisoned this past year and almost died, Kris had to use all of her savings to pay the vet bills and care for her dog...the dog has recovered but Kris needs donations to continue this wonderful work....She gives the Bully breeds such good publicity by doing what she does and she needs our help with donations......I have enclosed her website...People can either purchase the articles she needs or send her donations...her address is on her board

All of these people and organizations work hard on behalf of all of our dogs, no matter what breed...now they need our help.

Thank you all
