ABBA Minutes, January 27, 2002

The minutes were accepted as posted on the ABBA Board.

-POINT OF ORDER-

It is required of all who speak during the discussion to identify themselves by name and state.

States Represented: IO, MI, NY, NV, PA, VA, WA, WY,

Old Business:

-Special Meeting- A meeting will be called Monday, January 27, 2002 at 8:30 EST, by invitation to an AOL IM chat.

-BSL Updates-

Milwaukee, WI - Emily and Mauren reported no response from the NE Club people or from Bellevue, NE. An e-mail to Denise from Pam of WDF was posted to the ABBA board by Sue. Sue announced that Milwaukee Humane Society does not place pitbulls. The proposed ordinance needs to be signed or vetoed by the Mayor by January 31st.

-HSUS- Denise stated that she was told HSUS was involved in Milwaukee and Emily has e-mailed their regional office, asking if they knew their words were being used against anti BSL. Emily was then contacted by the regional representative, asking if she was a Milwaukee resident and requesting communication. Emily recommended making a contact with WI Dog Federation. Pam was already familiar with him. Maureen read that HSUS had taken a stand against BSL in Milwaukee.

Baltimore, MD - Maureen announced the non BSL new ordinance will be finalized on February 7, 2002.

Modesto, CA - Sue stated that there was a state law prohibiting BSL and Modesto cannot enact a BSL law at this time. Emily suggested sending the mayor, city council, city attorney and the local newspaper a letter reminding them of the state law.

Richmond, VA - Brandi asked what was happening there.

Michigan - has one of the strongest animal cruelty laws in the country. Sue will provide it to anyone who wants a copy.

Reading, PA - Jaime reported the city of Reading is going to allow pit bulls to reside in the city once again, with one stipulation. Altered dogs will be licensed for $50 while unaltered dogs will cost $500. They had been banned since 1998.

-ABBA Auction, proceeds to WHS- Noel sent a check for the sale of her Appleby's certificates to WHS. Jaime listed her quilt today. Lisa will donate the $86 she has collected to WHS.

-ABBA Website- Peggy suggested posting links to some of the BSL related websites.

New Business:

-Milwaukee Petition- A petition will be drafted, using petition.petition.com, to be sent to the Mayor of Milwaukee asking for the veto of a breed specific dog ordinance. Emily will write the first draft and forward to Sue, Maureen and Peggy for editing and posting.

-The Boot- It became necessary on several occaisions throughout the meeting for multiple participants to use the boot on 208.187.14.221 Blackdog100 due to use of threatening, slanderous and inappropriate comments. It was announced that transcripts of the meeting are kept.

-NY State NON BSL Dangerous Dog Law- Peggy has posted the link on the ABBA Board. It states no community may use BSL and no insurance company can refuse insurance on the basis of breed. Ann Lettis, who has Staffy Bulls, is very active in fighting BSL in NYS. It was stated the MN and PA have similar laws.

Brags and Announcements:

Lora - MeMe x Indy pup, owned by Dick Pascoe, won his class today at his first AKC show.

Ruth was congratulated for her UKC reinstatement.

Lisa - Ch Nova Scotia Hurricane Waylon went breed and Group 3 yesterday in CA.

Denise - is getting her dogs ready for pulling events. Blue, her main stud dog, will be retired and neutered.

Sandy - Joxer got his third leg IWPA today.

Jim - Mini Jane's pups are 7 weeks old today.

Sue - Spindletop is hurting and in need of donations.

Peggy - Jim had a great reply to a post he found that was anti APBT. Peggy and Sue both urged him to post the link to the ABBA Board.
