ABBA Minutes, February 3, 2002

The minutes were accepted as posted on the ABBA Board.

States represented: NY, IO, VA, PA, MI, NV, WA, OR, IN

Old business:

Milwaukee Petition- Maureen and Peggy reported that 260 signatures were gathered in a 24 hour period from all over as far as Germany and Australia. Peggy noted a two-day lead time is needed to post the petition. All agreed that the petition was a great idea.

ABBA Auction- Mike, Lisa T. and Maureen are sending donations. Jamie noted the auction address should be posted to the Hoflin list. Peggy noted that the auction needed to be promoted. Denise offered to post to the boards again. Jamie will make a donation if her quilt receives no bids. She also asked that an address to make donations be posted.

ABBA logo- Peggy inquired about the logo and its progress. Sue reported she is working with Photo Adobe to clean it up and enhance it.

BSL Updates-

Milwaukee, WI- Denise volunteered to get in contact with Pam Thomas of the Dog Federation of Wisconsin to get an update on what is exactly going on back there.

Rhode Island- Peggy noted that through the grapevine it was heard that Diane Guillmette attended City Council meetings and once again BSL has been defeated.

New Hampshire- Maureen posted that this area needed to be watched that it was a hot bed for legislation.

California- Peggy posted to the ABBA board an update from Sharon Coleman of the Animal Council. Sue reported that CA has a no BSL law but Santa Monica states all pit bulls must be muzzled in public.

Ohio- Peggy also posted the Ohio Task Force Update from Melanie Tierney.

Baltimore, MD- Maureen reported that the last subcommittee meeting that she attends will be February 7th. She remains very positive stating a plaque should be presented to the Council at the time it is put before the council. She also posted that she wanted to call a press conference. Peggy thought an official letter from ABBA would be appropriate as well.

Indiana- A petition is being circulated regarding the new state law addressing "dog fighting" paraphenalia.

New Business:

Barking Buddie petition- Denise is circulating a petition demanding the website change their description of the "pit bull". www.barkingbuddies.com

The Boot- It became necessary to use the boot on 208.187.12.83 100APBT because they refused to state their name and state which is policy on this board. Peggy added no participation without identification.
Another visitor was booted due to not logging in. She was later informed of policy and apologized.

New Petition- Peggy and Maureen agreed that the next petition should be directed at Bellevue, Nebraska.

Brags and Announcements:

Maureen- Sierra got a Group 4 at a puppy match and Tommy got first place.

Ruth- The dog she showed got a Group 2 at the same match reported by Peggy.

Peggy- Brutus sat on command in obedience class this week.

Jim- Mini Janes puppies are eight weeks old today.

Lora- Found a home for a 12 week old rescue puppy in a shelter. The people are gung-ho to do positive PR for the breed. They had wanted to previously buy a puppy but after Lora talked to them they decided they would rather save one.

Aimee- Grant is doing better about not jumping on people.
