Subject: what outside help do they want?
In reply to: Denise-BRK 's message, "Email from Dog Federation of Wisconsin *IMPORTANT*" on 09:48:43 02/05/02 Tue

Let's try to get some info from the local folks on how effective letters from outsiders will be.
And if so, what time frame?

If we have time, we must get letters from STCA, NAPBTA, Rottweiler and BT clubs. ADOA, AKC, others???

Does the DogFed. want to coordinate and send all the info in a packet? Or do they think individual letters are better?

What about putting up the petition again (slight revision)?

These are important strategic issues; this last round hit us very suddenly and the bill got steamrollered through. Now it sounds like there is an ally on the council, at least someone to guide us. The Wisconsin folks maybe should have a sit down with him to get more advice on who on the council can be moved and what approach will be most effective (for example, some may be moved by facts, others by emotional stories about kids and their beloved pets, others by a presentation that points out the legal/constitutional issues with the bill).

They should also start a letter writing campaign to all Wisconsin newspapers to alert the general public about this (I doubt that most Wisconsin people even know about it).

I'm happy to help with drafting a letter, but I'd like to get some feedback on these other issues. Let's try to act in a planned, coordinated way that will be most likely to achieve results. I'm not criticizing our last effort: everyone did a great job with the info we had and timeframe we had to work in.
