Subject: MI License Plates

Representative John Stewart has introduced HB 5580 to create a new spay/neuter license plate, featuring a picture of a dog and a cat. Upon payment of the regular registration fee, a $5.00 service fee and a donation of $25.00, the car owner gets a new specialty plate. The $25 per car donation will go to the Michigan Humane Society. While this sounds fine and dandy on the surface, you need to know that this organization is very radical in its political positions and has opposed the Michigan Purebred Dog Owners' Association on nearly every bill. This would mean that the Michigan dog & cat lovers would be funding an organization that wants to make it impossible to breed dogs and cats!
The following are co-sponsors of the bill: David Mead, Mike Pumford, Ron Jelinek, John Hansen, George Mans, Raymond Basham, Jim Plakas, Steve Vear and Paul DeWeese. You can get the e-mail addresses of these gentlemen by going to this web page: http://www.house.state.mi.us/replist.asp. Tell them that we don't oppose spay/neuter--we object to funding a radical animal rights organization with money from people who love their family pets.
