I won't even let my girls look at the first pitch when we use a pitching machine. Everyone of them complains, but I tell them if it is going to be close to a strike.....HIT IT! I agree that most pitchers are going to try to throw a strike on the first pitch to try to get ahead of the batter in the count.

What really gets me hot is when they have seen a particular umpire call a certain pitch a strike (even though its close but still isn't) over and over. They still won't swing and they stand there shaking their head "no" when it gets called a strike again.
