Subject: Taking the first strike - HELP!

The head coach of my daughter's 14U team won't let the girls hit until they take the first strike. My daughter and several of the other girls want to swing the bat. The coach, of course, gets mad at them when they swing at a first strike pitch and it is causing some conflict on the team.

Is taking the first strike a good strategy for youth softball players? Most of the girls on the team are 13 years old and they need to improve on their hitting.
