If a pitcher has control problems then this is good strategy=make her throw a strike. However, often the first pitch is the best one to hit because--the pitcher wants to throw a strike to get ahead in the count. This is a generality of course but a truism that the highest batting average in the major leagues is on an 0-0 count.That must tell you something.
