Brothers, beware of any doctrinaire insistence upon "sola scritura" (a teaching that is not in the Protestant Bible, and is a form of idol worship), as well as any other doctrinal traditions of men.

Scripture is only useful to us insofar as we are in the light ourselves -- read I John 1:1-2:29. Pray over it. And then read it again. And pray over it again. Let the LORD explain it to you.

Please remember that the devil knows Scripture better than any of us -- but we certainly cannot trust the Word in his hands, because he uses Scripture to mislead as easily as the LORD uses it to light the way:

"Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour: Whom resist stedfast in the faith, knowing that the same afflictions are accomplished in your brethren that are in the world." (I Peter 5:8-9)

Realize the devil can twist any Scripture, "And no marvel; for even Satan fashioneth himself into an angel of light..." "and shall show great signs and wonders; so as to lead astray, if possible, even the elect." (II Corinthians 11:14; Matthew 24:24) And unfortunately, this "misleading" includes most doctrinal positions, teachings, and traditions. If we ourselves are not in the light, then we, our doctrines, and our traditions can become mere tools of that devil:

"He answered and said unto them, Why do ye also transgress the commandment of God by your tradition? For God commanded, saying, Honour thy father and mother: and, He that curseth father or mother, let him die the death. But ye say, Whosoever shall say to his father or his mother, It is q'orban [made a temple sacrifice], by whatsoever thou mightest be profited by me; And honour not his father or his mother, he shall be free. Thus have ye made the commandment of God of none effect by your tradition. Ye hypocrites, well did Isaiah prophesy of you, saying, 'This people draweth nigh unto me with their mouth, and honoureth me with their lips; but their heart is far from me. But in vain they do worship me, teaching for doctrines the commandments of men.'" (Mar-Yeshua -- Jesus, Matthew 15:3-9; see also Mark 7:6-12)

Are we Christians? Are we under the Old Covenant or the New? Are we under the Law of Sin and Death, or the Law of Grace? Are we Pharisees or Forgiven?

"Behold, the days come, saith the Lord, that I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel, and with the house of Judah: Not according to the covenant that I made with their fathers in the day that I took them by the hand to bring them out of the land of Egypt; which my covenant they brake, although I was an husband unto them, saith the Lord: But this shall be the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel; After those days, saith the Lord, I will put my law in their inward parts, and write it in their hearts; and will be their God, and they shall be my people. And they shall teach no more every man his neighbour, and every man his brother, saying, Know the Lord: for they shall all know me, from the least of them unto the greatest of them, saith the Lord: for I will forgive their iniquity, and I will remember their sin no more." (Jeremiah 31:31-34)

Be in the light. Let the Comforter teach you. Don't let the evil one use you to destroy the faith, hope, and love of any brother in Christ -- one for whom Christ died. And do not sully yourself in others' doctrinal hangups:

"He who meddles in a quarrel not his own is like one who takes a passing dog by the ears." (Proverbs 26:17)

"Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you. Cleanse your hands, ye sinners; and purify your hearts, ye double minded. Be afflicted, and mourn, and weep: let your laughter be turned to mourning, and your joy to heaviness. Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and he shall lift you up....

"Speak not evil one of another, brethren. He that speaketh evil of his brother, and judgeth his brother, speaketh evil of the law, and judgeth the law: but if thou judge the law, thou art not a doer of the law, but a judge. There is one lawgiver, who is able to save and to destroy: who art thou that judgest another?" (James 4:7-13)
