Bob,
I have been looking at a number of different resources on the emerging church and one theme I currently run across is that the emerging church seeks to reach people in a "non churchy" atmosphere. This is not to say it is not church, but I really have seen God move in these ministries. One church which claimed to be 'emerging' had a slogan "church for people who don't like church". I guess you could say it is seeker sensitive. I really believe there is a place for these kind of churches, to get people in the door, but I become concerned about how deep they enter in with God. Of course, I haven't had a wealth of experience with the emerging church, just some visits which have been wonderful blessings. Hope this helps, amid my meanderings :)
