Subject: BACK TO BASICS..

Greetings all,

Working as not only what now has developed into Pastoral care at the addiction treatment center where I work but as a Police Chaplain, I deal with a great deal of drama and trauma. However many times the victims that are go untreated are the care givers themselves. This includes us as pastoral shepherds. So I wanted to share some "principles" that I have used, to make sure I am staying spiritually, mentally, and emotionally well.

1. Recieve - Retain - Release.

a. If I am recieving the Word, but not releasing I will get stagnate and spiritually constipated.
b. In study, or recieving the Word I need to retain it..pray on it, inventory it within my heart.
c. If I am realeasing a lot but not taking in the Word, it can get dry, or rote. Recive the Word, Retain it in your heart, Release it in Love.

2. Fellowship
a.We are not called to isolate. Remember in the Word..We are a "body" fitly joined "together". We need fellowship and connection with other believers, for edification, exhortation, and comfort.

3.Prayer
a. Am I spending time in intimate prayer with the Lord. If I am doing all the "stuff about the kingdom of God" and not spending time with the king.. I am just being religious. "realationship" is Vital our walk as beleivers, and ministers of the gospel.

b.I am one of thos who beleive in the gifts of the spirit, thus I pray in the spirit. There are huge, spiritual benefits to this.. (If anyone is interested in the biblical attributes listed in the Word, let me know, I'll be glad to post it for us)

3. Giving.
a. While I beleive that the Word interprets itself clearly on the practive of old Testement Tithing, and New Testement abundant giving. It is an instruction of the Lord, and a promised blessing as we give out of our hearts to the Lord and His work.
b, If you are having finacial issues it's time for a financail mentor to help you steward what God has given you wisely, stay disciplined, and stay grateful.

4. The Physical Body.

Rest, Nutrition, Hydration, Activity. We need to take care of the temple. There is no way we are going to perfect the flesh, nor should be get caught up in that, but as Ambassadors for Christ we want to care for our bodies, so as to be able to serve the Lord.

5. STAY GRATEFUL
a. Every morning I meditate on God's grace and the many, many, blessing, and grace, and mercy, and kindness, and on and on, that He has shown. Think on these things.

As always I am so grateful for you brother Steve and you heart and dedication in caring for us as a Shepherd to the Ministers of the United Christian Ministries Inl. God bless all.. Stay strong in the Lord and the Power of HIS...might. :)
