Is anyone reading this here? Just curious.

Sara rushed over to Sydney who rose elegantly from the waiting room chair. “How is he? Emergency sent us up here. He had to have surgery?”

“He is in surgery, the pencil was lodged in a main artery, they were going in to surgically remove it and clean out the area. Nothing too serious, Ian assured me before they wheeled him back.” Sydney put his arm around the ever unraveling tough as nails detective, she was so much like Parker he thought. “He will be fine, was in good spirits the entire time they worked on him. He joked with the medical staff about having lead poisoning.”

Sara’s eyes went wide, “aren’t pencils made from graphite?”

“Yes, but he was well on his way to convincing some of the younger staff that the pencils were so old they contained lead,” Sydney chuckled slightly.

Sara gave in and laid her head on Sydney’s shoulder, “that idiot. How much longer is this going to take?” Sara pulled out of Syd’s embrace. “How long has he been in surgery?”

“About 45 minutes but they had to prepare and then I imagine it will take a bit suture the artery and then flushing out the wound. They will come out and let us know when he’s in recovery. For now we just have to wait.”

Jarod had been standing just behind the pair, he shared a relieved nod with Sydney. “You haven’t called Parker have you?”

“No, but one of us better before she hears about this some other way,” he raised his eyebrows at Jarod. “Gemini and your father are on their way.”

“How, why?”

“Did you know Gem calls Ian everyday when he gets out of school? Ian had me call Major Charles, so Gem would not get upset when Ian did not answer.”

“Everyday?” Jarod was a little surprised and a little hurt even he didn’t have that much contact with his clone.

“Apparently so. I had no idea they were as close.”

“They’re buddies, I didn’t know they spoke that much. I better call Parker, I can’t put it off any longer.”

“Harrison?”

“Straight-jacketed and waiting for evaluation. The boy is responding well. Once we get Chris out of this hospital I can put this all in a red notebook and put it away.”

A short red head in scrubs approached them, “are you all here for Ian Nottingham?”

“Yes,” they all three answered at once.

“I’m Dr. Alvestra, his surgeon. He is doing well, he’s in recovery right now and you all may see him when he’s moved to a room. He did lose a good bit of blood when we removed the pencil from his shoulder. It was stuck all the way to the joint of the shoulder and he will likely have to have some arthroscopic surgery eventually due to this injury and apparent previous ones. He will require physical therapy and must wear a shoulder brace for several months.”

“But he will be fine?” Sara asked slowly.

She gave Sara a brief smile it was obvious she needed more assurance, “barring any unforseen complications he will be just fine. Now, I need to get back, a duty nurse will come round and let you know when you can see him.”

“Thank you,” Sara whispered blinking back the tears in her eyes. He was going to be ok. He would be fine.

Sydney and Jarod both shook hands with the diminutive Doctor before she left. Jarod excused himself to call Parker. “Would you like some coffee or perhaps some tea?”

“Coffee would be great, Sydney,” Sara smiled at him gratefully. She watched his elegant figure retreat as she sank into the chair, and cupping her forehead in her hands, burst into tears.
