Carson: Joining us on the phone now is uh .. Joey Fatone of uh .. *NSYNC. Joey,
are you in Florida?
Joey: Yes I am.
Carson: How are ya holdin’ up?
Joey: Uh, it was -- it was quite a shocker for me, I mean coming from a
different perspective. Uh, I actually was waking up in the morning and then my
mom called my phone, and she was just like “Hey,” and, you know “some plane hit
the World Trade Center.” I’m like, you know, in disbelief totally, I ran
downstairs to turn on the TV, and just before I was about to turn it on, that’s
when the second plane hit in the other building, and it was just like -- it was
such devastation, I tried to call, you know, come my perspective not being able
to do anything right away, I was trying to call a lot of my friends because some
of my friends that were uh, working around there and, and uh, one of our
security guards, his uh, sister was actually in the building and thank goodness
she actually uh, got out. She had a bunch of third degree burns, and then
another --
Kurt: What do you--
Joey: I’m sorry?
Kurt: Uh, what do you feel about this now, having had a couple days to think
about it, do you feel, you know, grief? Anger?
Joey: It’s still jumbled, just because like I said, the perspective of being
over here, you know, we’re gonna try and help as much as we can and I know in
Florida, ya know, a lot of uh, people are giving out blood and trying to help
out, and trying to be patriotic and um... it’s just, it’s still really hasn’t
sunken in because you see it on TV like I was listening to you say it looks like
a CGI, someone, you know, computer did it and to not be able to be there and to
really see it, it’s just -- it’s just a odd feeling, it’s just a very scary
feeling because you always try to picture what everybody else is going through,
you know, and watching it on TV, and watching all of the rescue people trying to
find the people through the rubble and everything, it’s just, it’s just a
devastating thing.
Carson: Joey, and you -- did you lose a crew member in this?
Joey: Yes, uh, one of the uh, crew members that uh, worked one of the stages, he
actually uh, was in one of the planes that crashed, and uh...
Carson: Wow, I’m very sorry to hear that.
Joey: Yeah, and he was actually on his way to going home, uh he’s worked wtih us
before and worked with Backstreet Boys, and he was traveling and Tim Miller, our
stage guy, he gave us a call and let us know, and we were just completely
totally devastated.
Carson: And also being a native New Yorker, are all of your family and friends
ok, have you had a chance to call them?
Joey: Yeah, a lot of friends of mine, they’ve uh, there’s a lot of family and
friends of mine that have actually, in the building, one woman actually went out
uh, to go on a cigarette break believe it or not, talk about weird timing. And
that’s when she saw it happen. And uh, a friend of mine was walking down the
street, she was going to work, so everybody pretty much go out of the way. One
of my friends, Carmine, he’s one of the firefighters that’s helping right now.
So, and the crazy thing--
Kurt: Are you--
Joey: I’m sorry?
Kurt: Are you familiar with that part of town? I mean, no doubt, you’ve been
down around the World Trade Center.
Joey: I mean yeah, we’ve been down there a bunch of times, and I mean, I’m
pretty familiar, I can’t -- for me, I can’t picture how, you know, obviously
it’s almost a whole block that’s completely destroyed. You know, and then some.
Carson: I think a popular notion now, Joey, is everybody is having a real sense
of reprioritizing their own lives. I mean, I know just personally. A lot of
people are saying, you know, this is just a lesson not to sweat the small stuff,
if you will.
Joey: RightCarson: Where does this stand for the world’s, you know, biggest pop group? What
are -- what are the thoughts of *NSYNC and music?
Joey: Well, the first thing that we thought of was obviously “What can we do to
help?” You know, that’s the first thing everybody thinks. And right now we’re
trying to do, I mean, we have a lot of funds from the Challenge For The Children
and a lot of monies we could probably donate and go to there, and also um...
we’re thinking of maybe doing some sort of concert and stuff, and, and... and
stuff like that, although it is probably hopefully, you know, gonna be scheduled
as soon as possible, but then again everybody’s on such a precautious thing as
far as, you know, flying and everything, so we don’t know exactly when that’s
gonna take place.
Carson: Alright, well we appreciate you calling in Joey, again our best to the
guys, uh... sorry for your losses and we’ll be talking to you soon.
Joey: Thank you, all my best to you guys, too.
Carson: Alright, thank you Joey Fatone of *NSYNC...
Again thanks to giddyup8138 for typing this
