German Economy and Society
Events:
1. (post WWI)-Germany lost her colonies and territories (therefore resources, population and industry) when she most needed them
2. (1934)-President Hindenburg dies – As chairman, Hitler steps up to be the leader under the title "Dur Fuhrer" He regulates all businesses, production, and prices.
3. (post WWI)- Germany had to hand over "huge quantities of industrial machinery, merchant shipping, railway engines, and wagons"
4. (1925)- Paul von Hindenburg is elected president
5. The use of strict controls on the distribution of raw materials
6. (1919-1923)- All progress was destroyed by the occupation of the Ruhr. As the economy collapsed, the currency became worthless and social unrest rose.
7. (1924)- The Dawes Plan presented by the American, Charles Dawes
8. (1929)-Young Plan introduced to replace Dawes Plan
9. (1930’s)- the immense loans caused all of Germany to fall into a depression
10. (1918)- Treaty of Versailles – Germany had to pay war reparations $132 Billion
