Events

-Versailles Treaty
-Treaty of Sèvres
-Poincare was driven from office in 1924 due to disappointment with small reparations out of Rhineland, international condemnation for the move and Poincare's tax increases.
-Reparations were crucial to reconstruction as France had no money to spare. For this reason, Briand was driven from power in 1922 after he allowed Germany additional time before making reparations payments
- interest on the debt is huge; enormous sums are still needed to rebuild France, ; no real German reparations appear before 1926, and; taxes were still too low to balance the budget. By March 1924, the France has lost over ¾ of its value.
immigration barriers were lowered, and two million foreign workers flooded into the country.
-By late 1926, the franc was not only restored, but was 30% higher than before the post war crises.
- pacifisme nouveau style
- Bloc National
- Popular Front- victory of the Popular front seemingly broke the stalemate between the socialists and the fascist radicals, putting the socialists in power. However, the government proved unable to control the domestic economy. The right united in their loathing for Blum, and this, combined with continued striking and rioting, was enough to force the Popular Front government to collapse.
- Popular Front was a genuine expression of republican democracy, and allowed a great deal of public participation.
