EVENTS
1. Dadaism (peaked in the years 1916 - 1920)- a cultural movement, visual arts, lit, theatre, and graphic design, and concentrated its anti-war politic through a rejection of the prevailing standards in art through anti-art cultural works.

2. Das Proletarische Theater- The Proletarian Theater (1920)- founded by Erwin Piscator who saw theater as a way to rouse the working class from its slumber and prepare the masses for the coming socialist revolution; introduced German audiences to the musical as we know it today.

3. “All Quiet on the Western Front” (January 1929)- Anti-war novel, most influential book, concerned horrors of WW1. Published and it written by Erich Maria Remarque, a German veteran of WWI.

4. The Congress of International Progressive Artists (1922); held in Dusseldorf;was attended by many artists and designers interested in moving from painting to graphic design.

5. Movement – Die Neue Wohnkultur (new living culture – interests in fashion, design, sport, new sexual politics, film and photography were all subsumed within a modern, collective ideal.

6. Rise of Jazz Music (1920s)

8. Introduction of Cabaret - a form of entertainment featuring comedy, song, dance and theatre distinguished mainly by the performance venue.

9. German Expressionism (1920s) - Expressionism movement started earlier in about 1905 with the Die Brucke (The Bridge) group, but arose in the filming industry.

10. UFA’s Contract with US - Ufa, led by the most successful producer of the day, Erich Pommer (1889–1966), made the Parufamet agreement with the Paramount and Metro-Goldwyn studios.
