Subject: The Bible isn't
In reply to: WOG 's message, "Why can't the Bible be the total sum of God's Word?" on 13:45:29 03/12/02 Tue

The sole sum of God's word because it is nothing without the Spirit regenerating it to life. The Bible is alive and active. Mere words on a page are not.

The WORD OF GOD has been spoken throughout the history of the world until 400 years ago, when the written word was made available. Until then people relied on the spoken word handed down from their authority. Whether it be Jewish or Christian. I'm not denying that the written word is a part of God's Word, it just is not the whole.

Even today with the written word you have upteen zillion different interpretations to every passage read. Thus the written word hasn't defined God's Word, it has made it more open to debate.

I don't think that renders God less powerful. I think he has a purpose in faith for us. I think I've told you this before, having the written word to PROVE whatever stand we take has nothing to do with faith in God. In fact it more closely resembles the logic of the athiest. If one can't find it to "prove" to themselves or bring evidence then it can't be from God. God's word has never stood for the written word, as they didn't even have access to the sum total of the written word in the early church. God's Word was whatever came out of the mouth of those moved by the Holy Spirit and through the scope of all time. Usually but not limited to the words of the Apostles and Prophets. The written word is relatively a new concept as pertaining to God's Word in its totality. No one ever before this last millennium would have stated such a thing.

Sincerely :)
