Satan is not omniscient, but since he had access to heaven even after his own fall (Job 1:6; 2:1) and at some point during his own fall he suceeded in getting one third of the angels to follow him (Rev. 12:4, 7-9) it is easily seen that he became privy to God's future plan to redeem mankind, which even God Himself alluded to in Eden (Genesis 3:15). Thus it becomes quite obvious that God told Satan at some point in the far distant past that He was going to defeat Him and redeem mankind. Just how this was to come about is seen in many "types" in the Old Testament, so with Satan, being an angelic being with a great intelligence, it would be nothing for him to realize what God had in mind and create a counterfeit based upon God's plan to try to circumvent and discredit it.

"If our Gospel be hid, it is hid to them which are lost" (2 Cor. 4:3).
