The idea that we need to remain in God's favor to reap His blessings is throughout the Bible (whichever you use).

The Jewish perspective has changed a little through watching other nations thrive while they (God's alleged chosen) have been forced into exile, and often destruction by the "heathens". What does this mean to Jews? Depends on many things, the most important factor IMO is the messiah.

If things are right the messiah will be sent to bring peace. These things are not limited to the Jews, the gentile nations must also attain a certain state for this to occur (Tachings of Luria). Anyway, the Jews should always be mindful of their influence upon the other nations and be an example of social justice.

I can in no way disagree with the idea that a nation which has become an affront to God will suffer His wrath. The unfortunate part of this is my human limitation of vision. I cannot always see all the ways that God is "dishing out" His wrath to those nations. I can only focus on myself and the influence I do have on others, and try to lead by example.
