Subject: Back to the heathen nations and God
In reply to: schwabra 's message, "We have choices" on 21:17:59 08/16/02 Fri

S> "Evil" is also a choice we make. We choose to make things evil. This is somethings used for positive when can influence behavior by its example. Other times we must realize that when we see "evil" it is a choice that has already been made, therefore a non-issue.
An example would be abortion. Before the procedure, it would be unwise to brand a person evil, and afterwards it is too late to do anything but cause more pain by labeling the person. I am not supporting abortion in this example.

W> So does that mean that for the Jew when the Torah describes an apparent command from God to wipe out nations and take the land, that there is really no reason to defend the command and afterwards say it's already done so what can I say? Somehow that doesn't sit right with my thinking. What then would be the attraction to Judaism?

S> What good can come from calling our brothers and sisters evil? When they have made what we would call mistakes, we should still help them and show them our love. We do not need to call them evil.
So we can see a possibility that evil is not from God at all.

W> I can agree with you if it is a mistake, but we are talking "evil" and at first I believe that love should be shown that is lovey dovey and soft hearted. Some people have no intention of refraining from evil, then I believe that you can still love the person but the love can be expressed in wrath. Like the cancer that "needs" to be surgically cut out of a person's body. The cutting can be very painful but the surgery is NEEDED in order to save a person's life. This is how I view God's dealing with the heathen nations in the Exodus of Israel. Can you see what I'm saying?
