Subject: Pagans are cool with me .. where do ya think Christianity came from ?
In reply to: Don 's message, "Hi Mondo on pagans," on 17:15:44 07/30/02 Tue

Hi Don,

I certainly didn't mean to imply anything against pagans. What is a pagan ? Basically a non-Christian. I just used it as a slur, because that is what Christians do. :-) But there is no doubt that Christianity has its roots in paganism, and many feel that Paul introduced elements of Hellenistic Mystery Religion into the mix.

Yep, there was a lot of knowledge regarding the earth & the plants thereof that the ancients had. They had some amazing knowledge that only now we uncover in terms of medicinal ingredients of certain herbs.

I can see what you mean Don, about the passing of knowledge. Story telling was an important part of our history, and that is where truth and myth got mixed together. I understand how simply watching the stars allowed the priests of old to make miraculous predictions, regarding the seasons, the time of floods and so forth. It must have seemed magical to the people back then.

"Look what they accomplished just by watching the stars, the seasons and the Year was accurate to with in a 2-3 hours. The sun dial and the hour glass was by comparing what they knew against what they did not know. Even the leap year was figured out... I don’t think I could do that."

You're bang on. It is amazing. There are ancient wonders such as the sphinx, stonehenge and the great pyramid that we still cannot reproduce. Now we can talk about some explanations, but still ...

I was joking about the "pagan" thing. But I'm glad we has this little talk. :-)
